Who in Dog Space has lost significant amount of weight ?

April 17, 2008

Hey ya'll- I have got to lose weight- and I have been on every diet in the world. I'm not crazy for exercise- except for dancing, "romance" and jumping on the bed. I was thinking about buying a full sized used trampoline. Or at least a small rebounder.

I need to lose 75 pounds- for real. I'm over age 40 now and my metabolism is slower than ever. I am pretty much a vegetarian, and I don't eat fried foods or ice cream or anything. But I eat too much. Too much of anything is not good. It doesn't matter if it is tofu and rice and soymilk and organic granola- it still puts on the pounds. I've recently gained 12 more pounds. I have no clue why. I haven't changed anything. I guess it is just age.
I'm completely overwhelmed. My husband loves me the way I am, and it is not about "cosmetic" stuff- I like being big, and I like the way full figured women look. It is about health issues. I have hypothyroid disease, and the medication helps, but it is still very hard to lose weight. My blood work shows that my cholesterol is at healthy level, and I do not have diabetes or high blood pressure- but I am so afraid that will change in the next few years if I don't do something NOW. I can't afford a trainer, a gym membership or treadmill. I was thinking maybe I could buy a used trampoline. When I was thin (way back in early 90s - for maybe 4 months- ha!) I loved jogging/jumping/exercising on the trampoline. I did tear a ligament in my foot that way- but it sure was fun. And it was something I enjoyed. It was easy on my knees too. I have arthritis in my knee and hip so I have to do low impact. My neighborhood is unsafe so walking in the early am or after 5:30pm. There have literally been 3 hold ups (at gunpoint!) within a 1/2 mile of me in the past month. And the guy has not been caught yet. It is crazy! So it is either - drive to a safe neighborhood to walk - which is not a bad idea- and/ or get me a trampoline to put out in (fenced in, locked) back yard. Anybody out there have any success with losing significant amount of weight? Hit me back if you have any tips. Also prayers appreciated! Thanks ya'll- Stephanie in Memphis

Let me know how you get on. (I've had to post this in sections 'cos it's too long to do in one go!) My goal is to lose 30lbs more in the next 3 months 'cos I'm trying to get a job on the cruise ships - which is a great incentive. Maybe we could do a sponsored Slim-a-thon and donate the money to the Mooseheart Home - I'm game if you are!

I finally said enough is enough! I started walking for a half hour each day, and went through my 'fridge with a ruthless hand, chucking out anything bad and replacing it with the good stuff. Now I'm weight training for half an hour each morning and in a week have lost a further 7 lbs.

P.S I've just lost nearly twenty pounds in weight, 'cos I had an epiphany in November and felt so bad about myself I just had to do something about it. I've watched Dr Phil's shows for a while, and bout his book the Weight Loss Programme, which gives you a real psychological insight into why you're not losing weight. For me it was linked to self-esteem and trying to make myself unattractive, for a bunch of reasons.

I was feeling really crappy earlier, but I've just been for some retail therapy, bought loads and feel so much better, now - although my bank account is suffering! Have a great Sunday!
